Porsche has announced it will produce a hybrid version (combo gas engine and electric motor) of its Cayenne SUV before 2010. AutoblogGreen has some interesting coverage. Earlier this fall I was in the market for a new SUV for my real estate business, since something unfortunate happened to my BMW X5 while it was in the care of a local service dealership. Anyway, I am happy to be rid of that problem, and was looking to replace it with another SUV. Since my wife and I have a growing family, and of all the vehicles we have owned, we have found that SUV’s are the most all-around practical given where we drive, albeit, unfortunately they are very poor on fuel. So, I wanted to make sure our next vehicle was much more fuel efficient. This led me to the Ford Escape Hybrid, which if you are a regular reader of this blog you will already know I ordered and expect to take delivery of a 2008 Escape Hybrid before the end of this month. I am very much looking forward to it! Just to tease me I am sure, yesterday I saw an Escape Hybrid silently cruising by on electric power only, as I was leaving the Toronto Ski and Snowboard Show Ski Patrol Swap Meet at Exhibition Place. So…, what does this have to do with the Cayenne? Well, in my search for a new SUV I actually tried the new Cayenne and very much liked it. However, I could not justify the poor gas mileage for a vehicle I would use everyday in my business. With the new Cayenne Hybrid coming by 2010, maybe I will be in the market in a couple of years time for one if it proves to be as good as it sounds now.
