I Took the Plunge!

Okay, I finally decided to modify the way my Toronto Beaches real estate blog is structured relative to my website. First, I have moved my Toronto Real Estate Musing blog outside of my website.  I did this for two reasons.  First, I wanted individual blog posts to be fully searchable by individuals as well as the search engines.  Second, I wanted to have more control over my blog to add things like widgets, plugins and to better manage the general look and feel.

Since September 2007 I had been using Featured Blog provided by Top Producer, framed inside my Top Producer website.  This construct generally met my needs, but I have found as I mature as a “blogger” (okay, I may have matured only a bit, but I think I have) I wanted to do things with the blog I could not do while my blog was embedded inside my website.  So, I have taken the big step of separating the two.  I had really just wanted one site that did it all, but I don’t think I can achieve the vision I have for my real estate business with just one site for my blog and Top Producer website (at least currently).

Looking forward, I expect my blog will evolve to replace my website as the primary place my clients and potential clients learn about what I do and how I can help them buy and sell Toronto real estate.

The next step I am thinking about is moving to a self hosted platform for my blog, since it is currently hosted by WordPress.  I believe at some point in the next 3-6 months I will make the move, which will enable me to take even more control of my blog, in terms of style and add-ons.  I will also most likely need to hire someone to help with HTML and CSS coding, since the functionality I desire may require someone who can put this together quicker than I can since I am still on a steep blogging learning curve here (… although my background is an engineer whose has done some programming in C++, Fortran – gosh that is old!, and Visual Basic – that is old too! … but I need to spend more time selling real estate and building my business, not programming).

So, onward and upward.  My goal for my website and blog remains to provide relevant, insightful information on real estate in Toronto, and specifically in The Beach, or as some call, The Beaches.
